FAA Knowledge Test Endorsement
If you purchased a ground school course, you may receive an endorsement to take the FAA knowledge test after completing the course with an average score of 75% or higher. This minimum ensures that you are prepared and likely to pass the test. Students typically score within a few points of their course average, and those scoring below 75% are unlikely to pass the FAA knowledge test.
Endorsements are available for the following FAA knowledge tests:
- Private Pilot
- Instrument Rating
- Commercial Pilot
- Fundamentals of Instructing
An endorsement is not required for FAA Remote Pilot, Airline Transport Pilot, Flight Instructor (Initial), Ground Instructor, or Transport Canada exams.
The FAA Knowledge Testing Matrix outlines the FAA's requirements and rules for knowledge test, and is available on the FAA's Airman Testing website.
Course Completion Requirements
An endorsement will be issued only after you meet the course completion requirements, which are outlined at the start of the course. You can view these requirements and track your progress in the app by tapping Course Requirements in the side menu.
Requesting an Endorsement for the FAA Knowledge Test
After you complete the course, tap the Endorsement button in left side menu in the app, then provide all of the information requested. The Endorsement button will not appear until you complete the course. Course requirements and your progress towards meeting those requirements may be viewed in the app by tapping Course Requirements in the side menu.
Knowledge test endorsements are valid for 30 days, and may not be reissued or extended for any reason.
An FAA Tracking Number (FTN) is required to obtain an endorsement and schedule the knowledge test.
Scheduling the FAA Knowledge Test
All knowledge tests are administered by PSI Systems, an FAA contractor. Please see this support article for additional information regarding scheduling.
After the FAA Knowledge Test
We are required to maintain a record of endorsements and knowledge test results, and you must agree to provide your FAA score report after taking the knowledge test. Score reports are confidential and are not shared with third parties. They are used solely for record-keeping and to improve our courses by identifying common weak areas among test takers. After taking the exam, please upload a copy of your score report (PDF or photo) by tapping the Endorsement button in the app.
